EDCN is a specialized arts education school, with integrated education, which aims to train professional dancers in the fields of classical and contemporary dance.
The Directorate of the Escola Artística de Dança of the National Conservatory welcomes all new students, as well as their respective fathers/mothers and guardians, and wishes all an excellent school year.
EDCN’s objective is to train dancers in the fields of classical and contemporary dance. The training plan for the approximately 150 students who currently attend this public institution includes dance subjects and the general training area, from the 2nd cycle to the end of secondary education, and the results of external evaluations have been very positive and above national averages.
EDCN ATTENDANCE – RECOMMENDATIONS
— Bearing in mind the specificity of the EDCN, all students who attend it are expected to behave in accordance with the degree of concentration and demand that the teaching of Dance presupposes;
— Parents and guardians are asked to:
1) that they carefully monitor the course of the students throughout the school year, in close collaboration with DT and the Board of Directors;
2) that they organize their daily lives in such a way that the students return home immediately after the end of the last class of each day. It should be noted that the school is not able to accompany students after the end of classes, due to insufficient human resources.
— students must be accompanied, from the 1st day of classes, with all the necessary material, both for classes in the technical-artistic area and for general education classes;
FOOD
— A card will be made available to the students for consumption at the bar and stationery. Until delivery, the payments indicated above may be made in cash, temporarily, as this procedure entails responsibility and increased work for service employees;
— All operations related to the card, such as: balance checks and inquiries, can be done at the bar kiosk;
— Meal tickets (canteen) must be purchased through the SIGA Platform, under the responsibility of the Lisbon City Council (CML) which, in due course, will send passwords to new users;
— Meal tickets (lunch) are free for all students who benefit from ASE Level A and B;
— All students who have restrictions related to their diet must communicate them immediately, and parents and guardians must fill in the respective form on the CML SIGA Platform;
– In the living room, microwaves are available for heating food from the home. However, it is recommended to use the meals provided, at lunchtime, by the cafeteria service.
THE SCHOOL SPACE
— @students are responsible for the maintenance and preservation of all school spaces used by them and will be responsible for any damages that may be caused to them;
— The School’s spaces are divided into four buildings:
— The main building, where the Directorate, the Secretariat, the Concierge, the Bar, the Library, the Living Room, rooms 1 (Music), 2, 3, 4, 5 (Visual Education / Science), 6 and 7 (Science), the Teachers’ Room, the Class Directors’ Room, Dance Studios 1 and 2, changing rooms and lockers for all students from 1st to 4th grade of dance (no 3. th floor), a bathroom for students and a bathroom for Professor@s;
— The adjacent building, where Studios 3 and Estúdio Mestre Jorge Garcia are located (7) and the changing rooms for students in the remaining years (5th and 6th grades of dance – E3; 7th and 8th – E7);
— The Jazzy Studios facilities at Rua da Cintura do Porto a Santos, Armazém J – Santos, Lisbon, where the other studios J2, J3, J4 and J5 are located;
— The facilities at the Academia das Ciências, on the street of the same name, where there are three classrooms, AC1, 2 and 3, an Educational Support Office/Special Teaching/Psychology, the Production Center and part of the Wardrobe .
EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
— During the school year, students may be invited by EDCN to take part in rehearsals, in addition to school hours, on weekdays, on Saturdays or during periods of academic interruption. These participations, not being mandatory, are fundamental in the public presentation experiences they provide. However, there is no penalty for those who cannot, or do not want to participate, and the final decision is up to the families, communicated to the School, when requested, for planning and organization reasons.
— students must have a tracksuit (to be used between dance classes), as well as a waist bag;
— students must keep and have all valuables with them (wallets, cell phones, etc.), especially at Jazzy Studios, where they must take these goods to the studios where they have classes.
THE LOCKERS
— At the beginning of the academic year, lockers and padlocks will be distributed, against payment (non-refundable) of €5 (ASE students – Grade A – free; Grade B – 2.5€), lockers and padlocks (implies a signed declaration of acceptance skin@EE);
— @students are responsible for the maintenance of their lockers and will be responsible for any damages that may occur to them.
THE STUDENT BOOKLET (only for students who attend Basic Education – from 1st/5th year to 5th/9th year)
— The «student booklet» – whose use is mandatory – will be distributed free of charge to all students who attend Basic Education, and will be valid for 2 years;
— All students must have their notebook with them at all times. This will work as an essential instrument of communication between the teachers and/or the Class Director and the fathers/mothers and guardians;
— The absence of the passbook, on the part of the student, may give rise to an absence (equivalent to the absence of attendance);
— If students loses or damages they notebook, they will have to buy a new one at the school stationery store.
THE CLASS DIRECTORS
— Class Director@s (DT) are the link with the other teacherss of the class, the Direction and with the fathers / mothers and guardians of education;
— DT have, in their schedule, 1 hour of weekly service (which will be opportunely announced and posted);
— DTs promote and hold quarterly meetings with fathers/mothers and guardians;
— Parents and guardians should not approach teachers directly. When they need to do so, they should contact DT’s for this purpose.
EVALUATION IN THE NUCLEAR SUBJECTS OF CLASSICAL DANCE TECHNIQUE (TDC) AND CONTEMPORARY DANCE TECHNIQUE (TDCont)
— In the core subjects of TDC and TDCont, students may be submitted, at the end of the 1st and 2nd periods, to practical tests; at the end of the 3rd period, they will be evaluated, based on the quality of their performance, in public tests (which also function as Global Tests, in the 2nd/6th year, as Access Tests, in the 5th/ 9th year, and as Exams, in the 8th/12th year).
— These tests and public tests will always be evaluated by a jury appointed by the Director of EDCN for this purpose.
ASSOCIATION OF PARENTS AND GUARDIANS
— The Association of Parents and Guardians of the EDCN (APEEEDCN) has also contributed a lot to the consolidation of the good results of EADCN, which has increasingly asserted itself as an essential element of our project, through a very active participation in school activities and promotion.
STUDENT ASSOCIATION
— Another essential element of our project, the Student Association, develops complementary activities, promoting the recruitment of associads, in the sense of civic and democratic participation
OTHER RELEVANT INFORMATION
— The School’s Internal Regulations (RI) and the School Educational Project (PEE) are available on the EDCN website, at www.edcn.pt. The Annual Activity Plan (PAA) will also be disclosed in due course;
— The programs and evaluation criteria of each discipline will be made available in the administrative services, upon request and payment of a copy, after approval by the Pedagogical Council to take place until the end of October;
— For secondary education ONLY, classes on Classical and Contemporary Repertoires, Seminars, Pas-de-Deux, Training in the Workplace, Composition and Choreographic Workshop will begin on a date to be announced in due course;
–FOR basic education ONLY, parents and guardians will have to ensure that they are accompanied at the entrance and/or exit of the students at Jazzy Studios, on the following days and times :

4th / 8th grade (A and B) – Thursdays – 17:00h
The remaining trips between EDCN (headquarters building) and Jazzy Studios will be provided by the school, using school transport, and duly marked during the schedules of the students;
Guardians of Education must provide written authorization or send mail if they authorize students to leave, unaccompanied, any school premises at the end of school days.
