Welcome

The administration of the National Conservatory’s Artistic Dance School welcomes all new students, as well as their parents and guardians, and wishes everyone an excellent 2026–27 school year.

The goal of EADCN is to train dancers in the fields of classical and contemporary dance. The training curriculum for the approximately 160 students currently attending this public institution integrates dance subjects with general education courses, spanning from the second cycle of basic education through the end of secondary school; results from external assessments in general education have been very positive—surpassing national averages—while performance in the artistic area has been excellent.

EADCN ATTENDANCE

– RECOMMENDATIONS

– Given the specific nature of the EADCN, all attending students are expected to exhibit behavior appropriate to the level of concentration and rigor required for the study of classical dance;

– Parents/Guardians are asked:

1) to closely monitor the student’s progress throughout the academic year, in close collaboration with the Class Teacher(s) and the School Administration;

2) organize their daily routines so that students return home immediately after the end of the last class of the day. It should be noted that the school is unable to supervise students after classes end, due to a lack of logistical and human resources;

– Students must bring all necessary materials with them from the first day of classes, for both technical-artistic and general education classes.

 THE SCHOOL SPACE

– Students are responsible for the maintenance and preservation of all school areas they use and will be held disciplinarily accountable for any damage they may cause to them;

– The school facilities are distributed across four buildings:

The main building, housing the Administration, the School Office, the Reception/Security desk, a public restroom, the snack bar, the library, the common room, classrooms 1 (Music), 2, 3, 4, 5 (Visual Arts/Science), 6 and 7 (Science), the teachers’ room, the class coordinators’ room, the special education office, dance studios 1 and 2, changing rooms and lockers for all students in dance levels 1 through 4 (on the 3rd floor), a student restroom (M/F), and a teachers’ restroom;

The adjacent building, housing Studios 4, 5, and 6, the Mestre Jorge Garcia Studio (7), the changing rooms for students in the remaining years (dance levels 5, 6, 7, and 8), the Production Center, and the Osteopathy Office;

The Jazzy Studios facilities at Rua da Cintura do Porto a Santos, Armazém J – Santos, Lisbon, where the remaining studios (J2, J3, J4, and J5) are located;

The facilities at the Academia das Ciências, on the street of the same name, housing three classrooms (AC1, 2, and 3), a restroom (M/F), and part of the wardrobe department.

CLASS ADVISORS (DTs)

– Class Tutors serve as the liaison between the class’s other teachers, the school administration, and parents or guardians;

– They have a scheduled weekly consultation hour (announced or posted in due course) and hold quarterly meetings with parents and guardians;

— Parents and guardians should not approach teachers directly; when the need arises, they should contact the Class Tutor.

ASSESSMENT IN THE CORE SUBJECTS OF CLASSICAL DANCE TECHNIQUE (TDC) AND CONTEMPORARY DANCE TECHNIQUE (TDCont)

– In TDC and TDCont, students may be subject to practical tests at the end of the 1st and 2nd terms; at the end of the 3rd term, they will be evaluated through public assessments (which also serve as Comprehensive Exams for the 2nd/6th years, Entrance Exams for the 5th/9th years, and Final Exams for the 8th/12th years);

– The aforementioned tests and public assessments will always be evaluated by a jury appointed for this purpose by the Director of the EADCN, and the evaluation is not subject to appeal.

OTHER RELEVANT INFORMATION

– Enrollment at EADCN implies adherence to its Educational Project (PEE) and a full understanding of the inherent responsibilities involved, as well as the fact that the program cannot be adapted to accommodate disabilities or specific limitations: the instruction provided is specialized, not adapted or therapeutic;

– The School’s Internal Regulations (RI), the PEE, and the syllabi and assessment criteria for each subject are available on the EADCN website at www.edcn.pt. The Annual Activity Plan (PAA) will also be released in due course;

– For basic education (2nd and 3rd cycles) only, parents/guardians must arrange for supervision during the students’ arrival at and/or departure from Jazzy Studios whenever they begin or end their day of academic activities there;

– All other travel between EADCN (main building) and Jazzy Studios will be provided by the school via school transport and duly noted in the students’ schedules;

– Parents or guardians must provide written authorization or send an email if they authorize students to leave school premises unaccompanied at the end of the school day;

– As mobile phones and similar devices are prohibited on school premises and during school hours, any contact with the school must be made via traditional means (landline telephone);

– EADCN owns, manages, and is responsible for the content of its own social media channels, and no other party may interfere with this work;

– Parents/guardians and students must not publish any images or content captured during school activities; doing so constitutes a violation of national data protection laws and may result in the matter being reported to the authorities;

– Any presentation activities for parents/guardians are subject to logistical constraints, with access limited by capacity; failure to comply with the established conditions will result in the students of the non-compliant parents/guardians being barred from participation; the same applies to the unauthorized capture of images and videos, with no justification accepted and no right of appeal.

EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

– During the school year, students may be called upon by the EADCN to attend rehearsals outside of regular school hours—whether on weekdays, Saturdays, or during school breaks. While participation is not mandatory, it is essential for the public performance experience it provides. There is no penalty for those unable or unwilling to participate; the final decision rests with the families, who should communicate it to the School when requested for planning and organizational purposes;

– However, participation in the EADCN End-of-Year Performance constitutes a pivotal moment of commitment to the School—a commitment undertaken at the time of enrollment – within the framework of the PEE;

– – Participation in activities outside the EADCN—ranging from private lessons to participation in events/ competitions/ performances—must be communicated and authorized in advance, in accordance with the Internal Regulations.

SECURITY

– Students must have a tracksuit (to be worn during breaks between dance classes) as well as a waist bag;

– Students must keep all valuables (wallets, mobile phones, etc.) with them or store them in locked lockers; at Jazzy Studios, where students must take these items into the studios where classes are held. EADCN accepts no responsibility for their loss or damage.

THE LOCKERS

– At the beginning of the school year, lockers and padlocks will be issued upon payment of a non-refundable fee of €10 (free for ASE students in Tier A; €5 for Tier B); this requires a signed acceptance declaration from the student’s parent or guardian.

– Students are responsible for the upkeep of their lockers and will be held liable for any damage caused to them.

FOOD (includes BAR) and STATIONERY

– Students will be provided with a card for purchases at the snack bar and stationery shop. Until the card is issued, the top-ups and purchases mentioned above will be processed using the student’s internal ID number.

SIGA Platform (School Meal Procurement)

– Access to the school meal service in Lisbon municipal public schools—which are managed by the City Council—is provided via the SIGA platform; this platform is the official channel for booking, cancelling, and paying for meals, as well as for viewing consumption records and performing other meal-related operations;

– It is the responsibility of parents or guardians to manage school meals for the students in their care, specifically regarding booking, cancellation, and payment; Access credentials for the SIGA platform will be made available to the guardians of new students in the Lisbon Municipality public school system prior to the start of the respective school year;

– This process relies on the information provided by guardians at the time of enrollment—specifically the email address they indicated. Therefore, it is crucial to ensure data is entered correctly to avoid errors that could disrupt this communication;

– Any issues regarding the assignment, recovery, or updating of access credentials for the SIGA platform should be reported to the email address provided by the Lisbon City Council (alimentacaoescolar@cm-lisboa.pt), without prejudice to any support that may be provided by the educational institution;

– Although participation in the school canteen service is voluntary, booking meals is mandatory for all students, regardless of the School Social Action support tier they receive; meals may be booked well in advance and up to 5:00 PM on the business day prior to the intended consumption date;

– Same-day meal bookings may still be made up to 10:00 AM, subject to the applicable additional fee and the availability of meals from the production unit;

– It is also the responsibility of parents or guardians to cancel meal bookings by 10:00 AM on the scheduled day; failure to cancel the meal in a timely manner results in it being counted as consumed and billed in accordance with the applicable rules;     

– Without prejudice to the provisions of the preceding paragraph, and in order to ensure access to a meal for all children and students, a backup meal may be made available in cases where no prior booking has been made, while simultaneously safeguarding the principles of equality, equity, and the shared responsibility of parents or guardians regarding the use of the service;    

– Microwaves are available in the common room for heating food brought from home. However, it is recommended to use the meals provided at lunchtime.

MENUS AND DIETARY RESTRICTIONS

– Parents or guardians are responsible for notifying the school of any situation that may affect the child’s/student’s diet, specifically food intolerances, allergies, or other relevant medical conditions;

– The provision of special meals is subject to prior validation by the Lisbon City Council; menu adjustments are permitted only for medical reasons—duly substantiated by a valid medical certificate—or for ethical, cultural, or religious reasons;      

– The request to adjust the menu must be submitted to the educational institution via the Class Tutor (DT) and be accompanied by the information necessary for its assessment—specifically, a valid medical statement identifying the clinical condition or dietary restriction justifying the request, or other substantiated reasons certified by official authorities;

– The student’s parent or guardian must be informed that validation by the Lisbon City Council is required; this will be communicated via email or telephone, and no changes to the menu may be implemented prior to such approval;

SUPPORT ECHELONS

– Meal vouchers (lunch) are free for all students qualifying for ASE Tiers A and B;

 – For the 2026/2027 school year, the Municipality of Lisbon has approved a supplementary subsidy for students who do not qualify for ASE (School Social Action) Tiers A, B, or C, but whose households had a gross annual income in the previous year equal to or less than twice the annual Gross Median Wage; these students are placed in the so-called “Municipal Tier,” valid solely for school meal purposes. Students covered by the Municipal Tier benefit from a 50% reduction in the cost of the school meal;

– Applications for the Municipal Tier are submitted via the SIGA Platform, using a dedicated tab created for this purpose—available from September 1 to December 31, 2026—upon submission of the supporting documentation.

Parents’ and Guardians’ Association and Students’ Association

– They are autonomous partners of the EADCN, whose dynamic has established itself over the years.
