GENERAL CONDITIONS

EDCN accepts students for the three last grades of dance training course (6th, 7th and 8th grade) who have completed 18 years of age by the beginning of the school year, and, coming from other countries, wish to attend the disciplines of the Specialized Artistic Area of the Secondary Course for Dancers, as a complement to their training.

ADMISSION PROCESS

• The admission of these students is subject to audition, which may be in person (on the presential auditions dates), or through a Video sent to the School, containing parts of a classical dance class and a contemporary dance class. Consult the edcn Video Audition Requirements.
• This video, similarly to what will happen if the student opts for the face-to-face audition modality, will be viewed by a jury appointed by the Director.

FEES

• Fees for students from European and Portuguese speaking countries – 2,500 euros per annum.
• Fees for International students – 3,500 euros per annum.
• Fees should be paid in two installments, with the first installment (50%) due at the time of the enrollment (not refundable), and the second installment (50%) due at the time of the registration.
• If these payments are not made by the aforementioned deadlines, students will not be able to continue attending classes.

SCHOLARSHIPS

• EDCN offers scholarships at International Dance Competitions as awards to successful competitors wishing to attend the school.
• The school also offers exemption or reduction of annual tuition for students whose parental income is insufficient to cover school fees.
• Parents who wish to apply for exemption or reduction have to provide official documents of income, which are then assessed by the schools’ administration. Students will be informed of the final decision within 5 working days by email.

FOLLOW-UP

• These students will be monitored, in terms of their teaching activities, by a Support Office, appointed by the Director, and, subject to availability – reviewed annually – by the School.
• Portuguese Language classes for foreigners can be provided but are however dependent on the availability of teaching staff. 
• EDCN accepts no responsibility for authorisation of necessary visas and resident permits for European and International students who wish to attend the school, as well as meals, accommodation and any goods being sent through customs.

VACANCY

The number of places available for European, Portuguese speaking countries and International students are limited and reviewed annually by the school’s direction.

European and International students under the age of 18, independently of their nationality, have to, in compliance with Portuguese legislation, obtain recognition of their equivalencies in general studies from their country of origin.

The school only admits those who complete 16 years old by the beginning of school year.

ATTENDANCE CONDITIONS

• If admitted, it is compulsory for all students to attend and comply with the official full study plan of the EDCN, namely, all subjects included in the General Training and Artistic Training components. Students who wish to opt for distance learning or home schooling from their country of origin should present the necessary documents when registering with EDCN.
• Students under 18 years of age who are admitted to EDCN may only attend if they have acquired a Portuguese residence permit, that can be requested when applying for accommodation, and have appointed a Tutor residing in Portugal.

6th, 7th and 8th grade

Classical Dance | soft shoes

Barre with balance in retiré, atittude and arabesque:

1 – Pliés;
2 – Battements Tendus;
3 – Battements Fondus;
4 – Adagio with arabesque penché;
5 – Grands Battements;
6 – Extensions – foot in hand / grand écart in 2nd position and in 4th position on both sides.

Center:

7 – Battements tendus /jetés with détournés/soutenus/glissades;
8 – Pirouettes combination from 4th and 5th positions, en dehors e en dedans; and in big  poses – attitude, arabesque and à la seconde;
9 – Adagio

Allegro combinations:

10 – Small jumps including echappés in diferente positions, en tournant jumps and batterie,
11 – Medium jumps including some of the following steps: assemblés battus, jetés battus, sissonnes ouvertes and fermés, brisés.

For male candidates:

12 – Grand allegro containing cabrioles, entrechat-six e double tour en l’air, grand jeté entrelacé, pirouette à la seconde suivi, déboulés, etc,.

For female candidates | On pointe shoes:

13 – Echappés, retirés, pirouettes en dehors e en dedans;
14 – Grand allegro enchaînement including diagonals with piqués en dehors, en dedans and deboulés.
15 – 8 or 16 fouettés (only 7th and 8th grade candidates).

Contemporary Dance

A contemporary enchaînement or variation (max. 2 minutes).
