Admission conditions, information and equipment

  1. To be admitted to the 5th year/ 1st year of dance, it is necessary to have successfully completed the 4th year of primary school education, with or without classical ballet experience.
  2. From the 6th year/2nd year of dance, along with successfully completed academic year, candidates should have previous experience in classical ballet, and from the 9th year/ 5th year of dance, it is advisable that candidates also have experience in contemporary dance.
  3. The selection process is based on the evaluation criteria which can be found at the school office or on our website. The decision of the audition’s jury is final and cannot be contested or appealed, therefore, any approach to the Jury members is not allowed.
  4. Due to the limited number of places available candidates who wish to audition, for the 2nd/6th year onwards should have sufficient experience in classical ballet that permits them to frequent the level of dance corresponding to the academic year of study of entry.
  5. Candidates who are overweight in relation to their height will be eliminated from the audition process.
Body mass index (BMI) – BMI is an international measure that translates the relationship between mass (commonly designated by weight in kg) and height (in meters) in order to determine in a generalist manner if this relationship is within healthy parameters. The BMI calculation is made by divided the mass (kg) by the square of the height (in meters), and should be between 18.5 and 24.9 kg/m2.Values above 25 kg/m2 are considered overweight and values below 18.5 kg/m2 are considered below weight.
Note: It is necessary to mention that differentiated athletes and populations such as dancers, have BMI values that should not be interpreted linearly based on normative tables for the general population. Still, BMI values less than 18.5 kg/m2 should be clinically evaluated.
  6. Whenever there are doubts/questions of physical or other nature, to ensure additional clarifications to the parties involved, an interview with the candidate and the respective student’s guardian may be requested by the audition’s jury.
  7. If the candidate is admitted to EDCN, he must, upon registration, hand over a medical certificate attesting to have physical conditions for the intensive practice of dance at a specialised artistic school. The absence of this certificate will imply the impossibility of school enrolement.
